Job Title: Housekeeper

Reports to: Head Housekeeper

Purpose of role

As Housekeeper at Storyhouse you will be responsible supporting the Head Housekeeper in maintaining the overall presentation and functionality of the building.

You will ensure a clean, orderly and accessible environment for all visitors to Storyhouse, that will become a critical factor in maintaining and strengthening our reputation.

This role will suit an individual with previous experience in a cleaning team, who also possesses integrity and a high level of attention to detail.


Responsibilities and accountabilities

Ensure your work is completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.

Assist in a deep clean of public areas as required each morning before the building is open.

Report any maintenance issues to your line manager, following company procedures.

Assist with the receipt of cleaning deliveries to the building, including storage and management of products in line with health and safety legislation.

Undertake general cleaning tasks including, hoovering, mopping, dusting and cleaning windows.

Ensure event and performance spaces are clean and safe before the arrival of clients and guests.

Ensure all public areas are clean and presentable at all times.  Deal with cleaning issues as they arise.  Ensure that bins are emptied and all customer areas tidy.  Inspect toilets and other areas, on a regular basis and in line with the company’s cleaning policy.

Complete basic maintenance tasks, such as unblocking toilets, repairing damage and installing new fixtures and fittings.

Ensure facilities are well stocked with toilet rolls and soap throughout the day, in both public, back of house and staff areas.

Assist with receiving and unloading deliveries to the building when required.

Offer a friendly welcome to Storyhouse, assisting customers with general enquiries when asked.



Be fully conversant with the safe evacuation of customers from all public areas and adopting duties as a fire marshall as required.

Be fully conversant with the company’s health and safety policies and procedures and keep up to date with changes on a regular basis.

Comply with all company governance and policies to avoid risk and minimize company liability.

Carry out any other duties as required by your line manager or Chief Executive.



Skills, knowledge, achievements

A minimum of 6 months previous cleaning experience.  

Charming personable and approachable, capable of talking to customers brilliantly

Working knowledge of operating cleaning equipment

Self-motivated and well presented

Knowledge of cleaning sensitive materials, and treatment of bespoke furniture.

Strong communication skills with a positive attitude

Knowledge and experience in the safe use and storage of potentially hazardous cleaning products in accordance with health and safety legislation

Excellent team worker and also a proactive independent worker
